We work hard at the Hi-Tech-And-Antique Store, and sometimes we get visitors. This one is a little more than an inch or so long, a very tiny vertebrate with huge eyes. And they watch. "Let me out of this plastic thing" is what it is saying. You know it as a gecko, but a very small one. They climb all over the place. Looking. "Where are those bugs that you promised me?"
While we are not trained in herpetology (study of reptiles), we did manage to get the genus and species name through some brief research. This little one is not a native to America, but is now abundant in the South because of its adaptability. Some people consider it a pest, but what do you want - lots of little bugs or one chubby gecko? That is an aesthetic decision. We captured it briefly and had a discussion about Store business and pointed it in the direction of some hopefully delicious arthropods doing damage in the garden. The scientific name, based on our tentative identification is Hemidactylus frenatus, also known commonly as the House Gecko. It is a beige color to our eyes, with a distinctive striped tail, which may be a juvenile feature, we think. It is native to Southeast Asia, but through international shipping it has become abundant in the areas of milder climate in North America.
Get your bids in on the following items displayed in the widget soon. Our auctions are ending on Sunday and no new ones are to be posted for the time being. The remaining Store Items are subject to being taken down in another week or so, so we can regroup the store. We will probably continue to blog, to please our fan base, but it will be for the love of the blog, not to make filthy lucre. These prices are very low - 1.99 and 2.99 and so forth. We are not getting limo rides at these prices. You are getting value - if you like to read that is.
